PDF - Manuals - Boxes delivered after 01.01.09

Dear customer

Congratulations on your new UNI-DAMP hygro-box which will help to enhance your playing experience and at the same time provide savings because your shuttlecocks last longer.

The hygro-box gives you ample storage room, low noise levels and very low energy consumption. We have tried to make operation as simple as possible so that you can concentrate on playing instead of spending your time maintaining the hygro-box.

Important:

  • You should read the manual before using the hygro-box for the first time.
  • This manual is for hygro-boxes delivered after 01.01.09 only

Overview of the hygro-box

Preparing the hygro-box for use

Place the hygro-box at its intended location - preferably close to a power outlet to avoid long cable runs.

The hygro-box should be aligned to perfect vertical position by adjusting the feet.
When this is done the humidifier should be started using the following steps:

  1. Remove the water container.
  2. Unscrew the sealing cap at the bottom of the container and fill the container with tap water.
  3. Add the water preservative to the water by lightly squeezing the bottle (appr. 15-20 drops are needed for each refill).
  4. Screw the sealing cap back into place.
  5. Place the water container back in its place in the humidifier.
  6. Start the humidifier at its lowest level and open the adjustable fog nozzle.

Please read the instruction manual for the humidifier. To avoid damage to the humidifier there must always be water in the water container.
Note: Usually a refill is necessary approximately every three weeks depending on how much use the hygro-box sees as opening the door(s) will alter the internal humidity.

NOTE: Do never place the full water container on a surface outside the humidifier with the valve pointing downwards as the water will run out of the container.
After filling the container for the first time a few minutes will pass before the humidifier starts vapour production.

Display view - TAIE FY900 controller

Hygro-boxes delivered from 01.01.09 are equipped with a TAIE FY900 controller

  1. Top row  PV (red) This value shows the current humidity level inside the hygro-box
  2. Middle row SP (green) This value shows the desired humidity target
  3. Below these two numbers is a row of  led's of which only two are of concern to you
    • OUT1 (Left) lights up when the humidifier disperses varporized water
    • MAN (second from right) indicates that humidifier is set to manual control. Should NOT light up.
    • If it does light up press the key A/M until the light turns off

Setting the desired humidity target

  1. Push the < key and the right digit in the middle (green) row starts blinking
  2. Push the < key until the digit you wish to change starts blinking
  3. Adjust the number up or down with the ^ and v keys
  4. Repeat points 2 and 3 if necessary
  5. Finish by pressing the SET key

The best results are achieved with a relatively high humidity level of approximately 86 - 90%. This high humidity level ensures that the keratine (the main component in feathers) is moistened correctly and renders it flexible so that the feather wears down rather than break during use. This means that you can use your shuttlecocks for a longer period than if the kreatine was dry.

As you start the humidifier the air valve in the front door of the hygro-box should be closed in order to allow the humidity to reach the desired level.

If you want to reduce the humidity level you can open the valve until the new humidity level is reached, after which the valve should be closed again.

Storage of shuttlecocks

As the shuttlecocks are placed in the hygro-box for storage the end caps on the tubes should be removed. Place the tubes towards the back of the cabinet until they touch the grill. This placement ensures that the air circulates freely within the hygro-box and that your shuttlecocks are humidifed evenly.

You should store your shuttlecocks inside the hygro-box for at least three weeks prior to use as this is the approximate time it takes for the feathers reach their natural moisture balance.

If you need locks inside the cabinet you should use stainless padlocks.

Maintenance

Usually you need to refill the water container every third week. At each refill you should add some of the supplied water freshener as described in the instructions. This will prevent bacterial and fungal growth.

There must always be water in the water container, if it runs dry the humidifier can be damaged

There should never be water droplets inside the cabinet - although slight condensation near the door is acceptable.

Cleaning

The Hygro-box should be cleaned thoroughly at least once yearly or more often if the need arises (e.g. fungal growth). You should use mild household detergents only.

  • Disconnect the hygro-box from the outlet
  • The lowest shelf should be emptied and removed
  • Remove the humidifier and place it on a stable surface
  • Remove the water container
  • Tilt the humidifier and empty it
  • Remove the filter and rinse it in cold water
  • Unscrew the valve from the water container and remove calcium deposits carefully. Use mild detergents only.
  • Wipe the cabinet with a moist cloth
  • Reassemble the unit, put it back into place and fill the container with water as in the instructions above.
  • Restart the humidifier

Some advice

To ensure that you get the most out of your UNI-DAMP hygro-box we have collected some tips and tricks for you

  • Your club should appoint one person to be responsible for the operation of the hygro-box. This is to ensure that you know how long the different batches have been in storage to ensure the best conditions for playing.

  • The hygro-box should operate year round, also outside the playing season. Outside the season be sure to close the air valve on the front door so that the hygro-box does not consume too much water.

  • Another suggestion for even more savings is to collect the discarded shuttlecocks after playing, control them for broken feathers and then store the usable shuttlecocks in the hygro-box for later use by beginners or youth sections of the club.
